In 1869 Austria’s best photographer, Wilhelm Burger, accompanied his Government’s trade and diplomatic mission to China, Japan and Siam. The ‘K.u.K. Mission nach Ost-Asien’ was also interested in examples of superior Chinese works of art. Burger photographed these artifacts in 1869 and 1870 either mainly, or wholly in Shanghai. The artworks belonged to local Western or Chinese dealers or collectors. This photograph is headed K.u. K. Mission nach Ost-Asien and is mounted on original buff slightly soiled card 300 x 405mm. The photograph is in very good condition.
