Japanese Photo Books - now released! Two major new books on Japanese photography by Terry Bennett have now been released. 'Photography In Japan 1853-1912', Singapore: Tuttle Publishing, 2006 is the most comprehensive book yet published on the history of early Japanese photography in English. It also contains the results of recent painstaking research which throws much new light on the early photographers - Western and Japanese. 'Old Japanese Photographs: Collectors' Data Guide', London: Quaritch, 2006 is a compendium of old and new articles, number lists, facts and data and much else to make it an indispensable guide for any collector. Details of both and ordering details can be found on the 'books for sale' section of this website.
Pierre Rossier - Update A few minor changes have been made to the historical article on Rossier in order to take account of the latest findings. For example, it now looks very much as though Rossier returned to Switzerland in 1862.
