1002337General William Booth in Yokohama

William Booth (1829-1912), who had formed the Christian Salvation Army in England in 1865, paid his only visit to Japan in 1907. He visited Kyoto, Kobe, Tokyo, Yokohama and Okayama and was given a rapturous reception wherever he went. He met many famous dignitaries including Goto Shimpei, Okuma Shigenobu and Oyama Iwao. He also had separate audiences with the Prime Minister and Emperor Meiji.
