Old Japan is UK-based and was established in 1982. Since that time, we have been buying and selling 19th Century photographs of Japan (inc. Meiji & Bakumatsu era), China and Korea. Our customers are national and local museums all over the world, as well as photographic dealers and private collectors. Our stock of Japanese photography in particular, is probably the largest on the Web, and we are always interested in buying additional collections, albums, or single images.
We offer a full Buyers’ Satisfaction Guarantee: if you’re not happy with your purchase, just return it to us within 14 days, and we’ll refund your payment in full... no questions asked.

Copies of Important Reference Works on early Japanese and Korean photography available
Since its publication in 1996, Early Japanese Images by Terry Bennett remains a valuable source of information on Japanese photography during the late Edo and Meiji periods (1850-1912). Korea: Caught In Time, by the same author, is the only English language book to cover the history of Korean photography. Now out of print, both titles are increasingly difficult to find.
